Elderly pedestrian dies after being hit by car

A Verona man died yesterday after he was struck by a car on Allegheny River Boulevard.

Joseph Hezir, 85, was struck as he tried to cross the road from the Post Office around 10 a.m., police said.

Mr. Hezir was taken to Presbyterian University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:42 a.m., the Allegheny County medical examiner reported.

An autopsy is scheduled today to determine the cause of death.

Police still are investigating.
