When the clip broke off my blinky, I was able to disassemble it and drill a bolt hole, so now it's permanently affixed to my rack... better than new, I think - although I'm sure the day will come when I end up wishing I could easily remove it.

Thinking he was a random skeezer I stonewalled him. It was only when I turned around that I saw the bike parked outside. Bumper bike, if ever need $2, I got you from now on.

I often find myself in Chicago for St. Pat's weekend, as I have family in the area. Skippppping this year, however. Just too much going on here. Besides, the parade and activities were the past weekend.

General FYI: Locals often skip the big general parade on Saturday in favor of the smaller, more local, southside festival on Sunday.

I also just zip tie my blinkies to the seat post. Lighter and more durable than the silly plastic clips they come with, and you actually need a decent cutting tool in order to walk off with my light.

I guess that's a lot classier than a foot or so of 2" clear plastic tape. Still, lacking the classy, the only thing that dislodged the clear tape was a 20-foot over-the-handlebars plummet into a snowbank along with cracking the helmet.

The reason the tape was needed was because the plastic clip had snapped off an otherwise perfectly good $15 blinky that I had attached to the seat post.

I just ran across this article in the LA Times about the annual Fargo St. Hill climb, which I'd never heard of before. It's kind of like a single Dirty Dozen hill, I guess, at 33%. However, some people ride it over and over again; the top rider from this year did it 51 times. Here's the article, which includes some fun quotes from the riders:

+1 on Park Tool and Sheldon's site.

If someone wanted a book I think Park's Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repear is really good. And either of Lennard Zinn's
Zinn and the art of "Road Bike" or "Mountain Bike" maintenance are very complete guides.
