    Hello!
Sorry I cancelled the Bikefest version of Urban Tree Bike during bikefest due to rain...guaranteeing a beautiful sunny evening. But this one is happening, rain or shine, no matter what!

    Urban Tree Bike
When: Saturday October 10th! 10am-12noon or so.
Where: Meet at Friends of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest Headquarters, 5427 Penn Ave (across from the Quiet Storm)
Description: Friends of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest invites you to ride with us to learn more about the new trees planted along popular commuting routes, bike lanes, and riverfront trails. Includes some stops with tree identification and discussion about trees & traffic. This ride will be partly in traffic, and partly along trails. Helmets are encouraged!

Contact: caitlin@pittsburghforest.org for more info on the ride

I am working on the route (there are so many trees), and will be able to disclose a LOT of info about new trees being planted on corridors and in neighborhoods this fall (planting starts Oct. 24th)

Just a reminder that this is on Saturday!

We'll be starting in friendship-garfield and making our way to the south side, through downtown, and ending in lawrenceville. I will personally walk my bike through the cemetery and you are welcome to join me then too, but we can't ride through there, and that's just what I do for getting home anyway. Maybe we can harvest some bur oak acorns... the largest ones in the city are there.

Folks can decide to leave the ride whenever they feel, but I have arranged it in a very easy mostly downhill and flat ride.

Kudos to caitlin for putting this together! I know I learned a lot, was quite impressed with what FPUF does, and had a good time riding all over the city, too!

Thanks Caitlin! And a huge thanks to everyone for being patient during my flat tire, and an extra thanks to Will for giving me one of your patches. I know they're cheap, but I owe you a beer or something if I ever get the chance.
For the record, I got a new wheel at Kraynick's (the broken spokes had done quite a number and the rim was cracked, so Jerry agreed it wasn't worth replacing them).

Nice to meet you all, also. :)

Thanks for organizing this Caitlin! That was a nice ride with excellent weather. It's good to have a bit of the inside scoop on street trees.

thanks for coming out! i learned a new flat changing technique involving a dollar bill. also, if you wanted to get our e-news, like someone requested, just sign up for it on our front page: http://www.pittsburghforest.org

I know there is a winter tree id walk in december, so if you want to be with someone who really REALLY knows trees, that would be a good place to start. and, you will know all about tree planting action the next two months if you get the odd monthly emails.
