Bike the Vote: Candidates Respond to Our Questions

Posted Apr 23, 2007 by scott under Action Alerts

Bike Pittsburgh is once again making cycling a political issue this primary election. We sent a questionnaire to all the candidates in order to gauge their interest in helping make Pittsburgh a bicycle friendly city. Candidates not linked have not returned questionnaires. If you would like to know why any candidates did not respond, please feel free to contact their offices or campaign headquarters. We were hoping to get responses from more candidates in District 1 and District 9, however, Bike Pittsburgh sincerely thanks every candidate who answered our questions.

A good many of those interviewed mentioned that they require the use of a car during the day so they can’t bike to work.

FlexCar comes to Pittsburgh tomorrow, May 1st, so that’s less of a valid excuse than it ever has been. And while there has been mention of a similar system already in place for gov’t officials downtown, this opens up the possibility of bike commuting for all of us – ride down to work, dodge the costs of parking, the hassle of rush hour annoyance, and if you need a car, FlexCar is there, paying for your parking, gas, and insurance.

It’s one of the best things for biking that has happened to our city, in my opinion.
