Bike-Friendly Portland featured on Democracy Now!

Posted Apr 15, 2008 by erok under news

The international, independent news program, Democracy Now!, visits Portland, Oregon to discuss how the city is leading the country in green urban design, most significantly through their investment in bicycle infrastructure, earning them the distinction of “Most Livable City” by many.

Amy Goodman interviews Elly Blue of the Towards Car-Free Cities Conference as well as the other Scott Bricker, Executive Director of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.

The show discusses how the investment in bicycle infrastructure is a low-cost, high impact way to “green” a city by reducing a city’s dependency on oil and expensive auto infrastructure, as well as creating “more-livable” neighborhoods.

Democracy Now! is also broadcast live every morning at 8:00 am here in Pittsburgh on WRCT, 88.3 FM, Carnegie Mellon University’s radio station.

I was reading some bike blogs and it was getting really confusing. “Is Scott jet-setting it back and forth to Portland?” Then I discovered there were two of them.
