Post-Gazette: Pedestrian killed on West Liberty Avenue

Posted Nov 18, 2008 by scott under news

A bit of sobering news after all the good things that have been going on around town relating to bicycling (ELB road diet, bike lanes, new bike/ped coordinator, the Mayor’s four E’s initiative). This is why the City, its surrounding municipalities, the county and the state all need Complete Streets policies that place pedestrians higher up on the priority list than they have been receiving for the past few decades. I have to wonder, was this gentleman walking on a sidewalk that all of a sudden became a parking lot for cars like which happens often along this stretch of West Liberty Ave? Don’t believe me? Check out the street view on Google Maps. Cars line the sidewalks up and down that street and there is absolutely no enforcement. Why is there no enforcement of the no parking on the sidewalk law along this stretch of road?
