Volunteer with Bike Pittsburgh

Join the VeloCorps!

When you volunteer at Bike Pittsburgh you don’t just volunteer, you join a community of individuals passionate about making Pittsburgh one of the world’s bike-friendliest cities. In fact Bike Pittsburgh volunteers are such a dedicated and enthusiastic bunch that the word “volunteer” doesn’t quite cut the mustard. That’s why we’ve created the VeloCorps.

Tell Us About You!

When you sign up for the VeloCorps — tell us a little bit about you, your interest, and the skills that you can share to make the corps have the biggest impact possible. You’ll have lots of opportunity to get involved and even learn new skills. The VeloCorps is also a potential resource to help you tackle certain cycling objectives in the city, your neighborhood, or even on your street.

Get Started!

On your first assignment you will receive a Three Rivers, Two Wheels, One Voice! T-Shirt to wear at events to show off your Bike Pittsburgh colors. Volunteer hours are tracked and tallied, and as you reach certain milestones you earn exclusive VeloCorps swag that will make you the envy of all the kids, young and old, in the neighborhood.

VeloCorps assignments include:

  • Bike Pittsburgh Ambassador (outreach and tabling)
  • VeloCorps Days and Nights (office support, membership fulfillment)
  • Valet Bike Parking (as seen at Flux and the REI grand opening — park and watch over folks’ bikes!)
  • Info Distribution (maps, flyers, posters, newsletters)
  • Bike Buddy (bikepool to support people new to commuting by bike in your hood)
  • Urban advocacy rides (show off the beauty of Pittsburgh while having fun pedaling)
  • Neighborhood and University Bike Coalitions (neighborhood and university-based advocacy)
  • Events (BikeFest and Bike to Work Day and more!)
  • Your own initiatives (take the lead and/or support bicycle-friendly improvements to Pittsburgh)

Send an e-mail to info@bike-pgh.org with your name, interests, and specialized skills.

Free Ride Recycle-A-Bike ~ Bicycles are recycled and made available to the public for a low price or free. Based out of Point Breeze, Free Ride! teaches kids and adults how to build and maintain their bikes. They’re always looking for volunteers, good used bikes, and parts. If you can help with any of these needs, contact freeride@bike-pgh.org
