Neighborhood Pace Car
I just learned about this program this week in D.C. and think it's great. What are your thoughts?

I think it's a great idea, but isn't really just advocating that people, ummm, follow the law? It's a shame more money has to be spent to advocate simply following the law. Isn't that what the police are supposed to do?

It's true, but it's difficult for police to enforce the speed limit in Pittsburgh. 1. There are too few police to do so and 2. They can't use radar, by law they can only use vascar. So until the state makes it lawful for police to use the simplest tool available for catching speeders, they need to set speed traps.

I hear ya. A few years I decided to make conscious effort to do this very thing when driving around the city. I wish everyone would do it.

steevo, state cops can use radar. municipal cops need to use vascar. don't ask me why...

vascar is so lame...if they are even a fraction of a second off with their stopwatch it can mean a significant jump in fees/points. Really stupid way to "catch" speeders. they should just employ bikers to ride at 25 miles an hour in residential neighborhoods and take up the whole lane.

After years of riding bikes, driving n the city faster than 35 feels too fast for me, my speed usually hovers around 30-35. At thios speed you rarely need to brake and lights are usually timed for about that speed. Works out well, usually.
Unfortunatly going at or slightly below the speed limit get syou tailgated, passed on double yellow lines on busy streets, threatened with guns, and honked at. Some dude got out of his truck and threatened my wife(with both kids in the car) when she was driving "too slow" on Melwood/Gold way.
If people start driving the speed limit, the police need to start inforcing other parts of the traffic code.
