path behind south side works
i tried to take my normal route downtown by way of starting at the path that begins right behind south side works and it was closed for some kind of construction. Does anyone know for how long or if there is another easy way to access the path now that the entrance from there is blocked off? Thanks!

i think there is a way that goes around all that and gets back on the trail... if you just look around you might find it, i've seen people take it before but don't know where it is

I usually ride home the Prison Trail and cross Hot Metal Bridge. I usually don't ride the South Side trail but I'll look to see if there is another entrance for you before 18th street.
If you mean that the baracade was actually closed for once I would just recomend going down by REI to access the trail.

they actually put up a detour. it isn't that big of a deal. if you're heading east, just get onto the crushed limestone section and it's a breeze.
it's just until the american eagle outfitters gets their HQ done

The baracade was moved again last night when I went home. I'm guessing they are just closing it during the day when they are working on the building.

The part that is "closed" is the section behind the large open parking lot behind REI. They are actually putting up another building there and they have large heavy machinery moving around, briving over the path and such. It is an active worksite so it is 100% closed during working hours. You can not access Riverside park from South SIde Works and vice versa. During non-construction hours you can ride through as they move the signs.

RE: path behind south side works
I was biking there a few weeks ago during working hours, and they had a marked detour going right through the middle of the construction area that day, right around the parking lot's ticket booth, with heavy equipment working on both sides. One of the workers signaled to the driver operating near the detoured bike path to move out of the way, and waved me through when it was safe.
I think there have been different detours at different times. So far, I've always been able to get through, though I haven't been there in at least a week.
If the usual route is completely blocked, you might try taking the sidewalk from the end of 26th street. Failing that, Google's satellite view suggests that it might be possible to head all the way down 24th Street, turn right at the parking lot, and at the far northeast corner, take a narrow bridge over the railroad tracks to the trail. No idea if that's even possible, much less safe, nowadays.

That little bridge had gates. It is lovked from the trial side, but I do not know if it is locked from the street side. The detour when I got "stuck" there a few weeks ago was out the park at 18th St, up to Carson around the Birmingham Bridge and back to the side streets until you hit REI. I do not want to ride on the street so I was not real happy about that.

I just looked at the Google maps satalite picture of the area. If you zoom all the way into that bridge at the end of 25th, Just a little up the path there are two bikers riding along... I wonder if that is anyone here... :)

I'm not certain but I believe that the little bridge is privately owned by the apartment building near it. I know it has locks on it from time to time. I can check into this on my way home today.
If that's the case they only other option might be up at 18th
