Upgrading My Rustic Commuter

My commuter is a 06' Trek SU200. I haven't really taken care of it too well so it is now prone to chain slip and chain suck. The front wheel is also very out of true due to me slamming into the front of a minivan that cut me off. I only paid around $470 for the bike new so is it worth buying a new crank and cassette for it? (I have gotten a lot of use out of it, over 2k miles, so the chain slip and chain suck might not totally be due to lack of maintenance.)

*UPDATE*

I got my new drive train. I also did some more calculations and it appears I have done over 4,000+ miles on the bike conservatively.

i would not worry about replacing the cranks unless you can tell something is wrong with them, replacing the cassette, chainrings, and chain and giving/getting a good tune up will do you lots and lots of good though... definately worth it

RE: Upgrading My Rustic Commuter

agreed, if the bike is a good fit for you a drivetrain upgrade, new cables, and a wheel truing is the way to go.
