mtb single speed for urban terrain
Hi, I really decided to build a single speed mountain bike thats fast. I dont want shocks but I do need disk brakes due to my wheels. Can a fast single speed mtb be made and if so any ideas on gear. Or suggestions would be cool to. This bike is for the city not mountain biking. Thanks!!

To build a quicker urban mountain bike, you need, as you are planning for, a rigid frame and fork and relatively skinny, slick tires. Gear-wise, I'd go for about 65 or 70 inches, but that's a personal decision. If you have a bike presently, pick a gear and ride around in it all the time to see what you can deal with. This being Pittsburgh, you'd do well to buy fenders as well.
