Bicycle Polo?
Hello all, I have recently relocated to Pittsburgh from Baltimore where I played bicycle polo for several years. I have found this to be a great sport full of excitement, great shots, awesome plays, blood,sweat.... I would be very interested in seeing if we could garner up some interest in this. If I could get about 10 people to commit then I would be willing to get the equipment neccessary for a Pittsburgh Polo club. Check out some of the web sites that are devoted to the sport.
If you are interested email me.

i'm interested. we had a small game last year, and it was fun, but i didn't have the energy to organize a club or anything. the dirt rag folks would probably be into this.

I'm in. I will play, but not organize. Enough organizing of enough projects in my life for now.

I may have to organize.
Alright kids...
Paved polo. City bike style. Underneath the Bloomfield Bridge in that enclosed hockey court no one uses.
Thursday evenings at 6pm? Starting in April or something? Who's interested?
I'll get on building mallets n'at.

Some pals and I have started playing recently. We get together a couple times during the week over in panther hollow area. There is a hockey court by the bike trail there.
We also try to meet on saturdays at 3:30 by the Birmingham bridge in the southside. There is a nice hockey court there with angled corners. We have extra mallets and the resources to help make new ones.
Are thurdays in bloomfield happening?

lets make it happen... i think it's been slow to start. after the game we can chug skunk beers at the bbt and talk about close encounters with cars and the like.

A grand time had by all. It was good to meet you guys. I had a blast playing and look forward to seeing new faces on the court soon. Let me know, anyone, if you need a hand building a mallet. We have extras, enough for 3v3, but they are just ok. if there is enough interest and people want to pitch in a buck, I can order the material to plug the mallet ends (it helps to get a realy solid strike on the ball for a definitive and demoralizing goal)I have extra 1 1/2" abs too, so that leaves the shaft. Ok folks.

Based on some hot tips, I scored four ski poles at the Merton Center thrift store this afternoon for $1 each. There are more there.
Nicholas - Can you order that plug end material for at least these four mallets? We can get on attached the mallets heads soon, by next week's game time hopefully.

Bicycle Polo!
Good find on the ski poles. I ordered the delrin for the mallet ends. I should get it tomorow, cut it sunday or monday. I'll just put together four heads and we can attach them later. Maybe I'll bring a stepdrill and a hacksaw next thursday and we can throw them together there.

Nice.
I live just down the block from the Bloomfield polo field, so assembly will be easy. In the meantime, I'll get the ski grips off of there and wrap the handles in some bar tape.
Did you simply cut the gr

The grip is likey just press fit. Two burley dudes with some polo conditioned forearms should be able to twist and pull them right off. Same with the stop on the skinny end. That way you aren't losing potentially useable length.

RE: Bicycle Polo?
I now have four naked ski poles, ready for mallet heads.
If you'd like to drill them at home, the point of the ski pole measures 12mm in diameter.
I figure I will just bring a roll of bar tape with me and we can put the mallet heads on and then judge if we need to cut them to length at all before wrapping them.
Polo! Thanks again for getting the ball rolling on this.

I doubt i'd make it to the southside for a game, but if people are gonna be playing right across the street at the hockey court under the bloomfield bridge, I'd probably come out for a game. Maybe I'll even bring the push broom as that park is the current 16 year olds alcoholic hotspot, and is covered in broken glass
