Fort Cherry Road Race.

Not sure if anybody here is interested in attending a USCF road race that doesnst already know about this from other sources, but there is going to be a RR just past Mcdonald PA on July 20th.
Good course, hilltop finish (ie no deadly sprint)

Bike Reg site. Day of reg available too.

RE: Fort Cherry Road Race.

I've never raced on the road. Can anyone give me an idea what to expect on a course like this? Mostly, how fast do I need to go to stay with the pack? For $20 I might be down with this.

Also could I get away with the 48-36x12-26 gearing on my road bike or do I need a bigger big ring? Would I get a pump in my spokes for a rusty frame, mtb pedals and hairy legs?

RE: Fort Cherry Road Race.

I ride at the Oval (and did the Mingo races) on a 'cross bike (and until recently MTB pedals), and I've yet to shave (though I've been considering it). I've yet to get a pump in a spokes. Heck, I did Mingo and several races at the Oval with old Suntour bar cons. I did take a ribbing for those....

Other folks have more experience with proper road races, so they can comment on the overall speed (I got shelled at Mingo, but I also made a few rookie mistakes). The pace will be pretty fast at the start, but it'll mellow out.

I should add that even though I spent a lot of time at Mingo on my own (or with one or two other guys) it was good fun.
