Return of Mission to Hays

All of the people who attended the first one had a great time. Now that snow and mud are less likely, I suggest a sequel.

A couple few hours rambling in the woods. Maybe scouting out routes for a BikeFest ride? Earlyish Sunday morning, perhaps?

I await signs of interest.

I live nearby. If work doesn't interfere I'd like join in the rambling.

RE: Return of Mission to Hays

I *totally* want to go but two things:

1. must be Saturday
2. my tourer is still in pieces from the "winter(?)" rebuild

Oh, and:
3. should take the route through Frick via Duck Hollow

RE: Return of Mission to Hays

Yeah, I'm thinking Saturday is better. Depending on who/what/where/when we could go on down through Nine Mile run from Frick.

Maybe we should, along the way there or back, also determine the canonical route from the Glenwood bridge to the southside trail.

I was just looking over the savehayswoods website, and watched the flyover video. It's a pretty big chunk of land.

You want to go there.

p.s. by the way, the dire future of Hays Woods seems to have been averted, so don't panic when looking at savehayswoods.org

Brakes are back together as is the wheelset... if I can keep this build on track, we should be all-systems-go for Saturday (a.m.?) !

I like the return-via-Southside idea!

Nate, what bar-ends are those in your avatar?

Hmmm...depending on the time, I could be up for this.

I'd be all over this ride if I didn't work, and have way to much still to do for the cross-PA race/brevet thing.

Next time, really.

Renny, send me an email if you're interested. We can thrash out tentative details via emails rather than on the board. Mine's a gmail account, user name nfranzen.

RE: Return of Mission to Hays

OK, tomorrow afternoon it is then.

Two meeting places. 1pm on Commercial Avenue at the bottom of Frick Park, where Nine-Mile Run goes under the road in a culvert. 1:30pm at the bottom of Glass Run Road, where the driveway goes off to the 5-6 houses there.

Get to Commercial any way you like, twist on down Forward from the west, or zippy down the hill from the east, or ramble down through Frick from the north. Then we'll trek on through below the slag heap to Duck Hollow & turn right to get to the Glenwood bridge.

If I'm navigating through Hays, we'll get lost in the woods. It'll be fine. But maybe other people will know their way.

I'm primarily interested in learning some nice routes through the woods for future rides, perhaps even a BikeFest trip.

Afterwards, either back down to the Glenwood Bridge or over to Brownsville Road to the top of Mt Washington, down 18th. Whatever, I'm not that into planning.

Oh, the shifters in my avatar are the Silver ones that Rivendell makes/sells. But I think I'll ride the green truck tomorrow.

and holler if you want me to change the "plan"

RE: Return of Mission to Hays

I'd intended not to do so much hike-a-bike, but it turned out otherwise.

Hike-a-bike

Brenton came up with an awesome map, which he's promised to email me, or even post. We didn't even get lost.

More pictures here.

RE: Return of Mission to Hays

The hiking is my fault, as I wanted to head straight into the woods. Sorry if there are any sore legs. It was a good ride though. Only one recently-torched vehicle in the way, and no cameras were lost in the rambling.

RE: Return of Mission to Hays

Hey, been busy all week but also thinking that was pretty good fun. I wonder how muddy it gets back in there? Thanks too for humoring my "dropped-my-camera!" (a.k.a. how not to pack a handlebar bag) situation...

"Renny", is that you Brent? Get your map in here!

Here's a couple of non-redundant photos:

Oh yeah. Nate posted it here. Disclaimer: questionable accuracy (but it kept our asses on track).
