family ride to the fireworks
Is anyone else planning to ride downtown to see the fireworks on Friday?
We (some parents & kids) are planning to pedal to the fireworks on the 4th. It's OK to show up without kids, of course. Just keep in mind that the kids will probably set the pace.
We plan to meet at the Eliza Furnace trailhead in Greenfield and pedal downtown to watch the show. Not sure what time we'll set out. 7:30, perhaps?
If you're interested, please drop me an email...marymeg AT gmail ... or just show up on Friday.
Happy 4th!

RE: family ride to the fireworks
For the second year in a row, the weather was threatening, almost nobody turned out for the fireworks ride, and the rain held off and the fireworks were great.
Last year it was an official (printed-in-schedule) BikeFest event. Scott and I were to lead it. I only went because I'd promised -- I expected to get soaked. I think we had six people total, counting me and Scott. No rain, good times.
Yesterday we had a few nibbles from other families, but they all cancelled. Mary & August & I took two bikes down to the Smithfield St. Bridge and perched ourselves on the suspension struts. August says, best fireworks EVER.
Speeding back the trail, back at the car, back home, easy does it. Yinz missed out.

RE: family ride to the fireworks
I have this bizarre aversion to driving somewhere with the kids to ride our bikes (and we haven't built the nerve to cross town with the trailer in tow).
Pretty dumb, I think.
