Register your bike with the Police

You can register your bike(s) at any city police station. It would be helpful to have a photo of the bike with you that they can attach to the file, but is not necessary.

I'm Just curious how this works and how effective registering is. Do you think the police would keep and eye out for a stolen bike as they would a car? There is no license glaring out from the back of a bicycle that would signal a stolen bike if the guy riding it looked sketchy. Also, what happens if the bike is stolen in another part of town? This is a good idea to have your bike on record, just curious though if this has worked for anyone.
