Question for people who have done long rides (>100miles)
I want to start doing longer rides outside of a city i'll be moving too (harrisburg) however I'm wondering how people map them out. Do you rely on main roads/highways or do you just dead reckon through smaller towns using a map? I've looked for routes on the web (bikely etc.) however I haven't really found anything useful.

RE: Question for people who have done long rides (>100miles)
i usually use a combination of google maps and advice... between books, routes found on the internet, and talking to people i fill in the roads between two or more destination points and then use the satelite view on google maps to try to get an idea of what kind of road i'm dealing with, and then just go for it... the best way is to really just get out there and get your feet wet, there is a book (i'm sure someone on here will know the name) that has hundreds of longer routes in or around pgh, and i'm sure there are similar ones for the middle of the state.

Look for a local bicycle club, too...the local road riders should have all sorts of good advice, and may well have map packets and cue sheets available for free or a nominal fee.
