shower situation

Does anyone know a place downtown where a bike commuter could get a shower/change for free or cheap? My husband's building is renovating their locker room facilities, leaving him shower-less for the next four months.

I think the Salvation Army offers a shower/locker room deal.

Wasn't the YMCA considering it, too?

you can also become a member of the Y and then use the facilities there. also, if you are a member of the public pools, you can use the showers at the oliver bath house. not quite downtown, but really close on 10th st.

I really wish more buildings and businesses would make shower facilities more accessible for employees.

A few years ago I worked in the Cardello Building by the West End Bridge. On days I would bike in, I made use of the 5th floor men's room on the bridge end of the building, which had a single shower.

According to the forum search, there were several posts about the YMCA, though I can't get to the posts themselves. Mary, I think you're right--the YMCA was at least considering a "commuter" membership for less than their usual monthly membership rates. Not sure what came of this, though.

Scott?

What about the YWCA downtown? They have a pool and locker rooms, but they shut down that part of their operation a few years back. I wonder if those facilities are being used for anything.

Interesting idea about the Oliver Bath House, Erok. For what it's worth, the city pools are a sweet deal. $60/year for a family (or $30/year for an individual) gets you all the outdoor pools all summer and the Oliver Bath House year round. That's a whole lot less than joining a health club for showers.
