RE: Casino Detour Going in Place Week of April 7th
well it's certainly not bike-pgh's fault. seems like the city should have had this one figured out ahead of time.
did anyone hear about majestic star being broke and not being able to pay the contractors who are building the casino? i think i heard something about it.
bike-fest party tonight! sweet!

hi,
I'm new here - I just commuted in to work using the casino detour this morning (south from the Bellevue area toward the city). Somewhere around the beginning of the detour my back wheel came loose (just put on new tires, must not have gotten the nut tight - an excellent arguement for quick release skewers), anyway, I ended up turning into a fire hall along the detour. The fireman on duty was a huge help. So the detour's alright in my book. ;)
Oh, and I didn't really have any trouble with the signs

Yep, worked stopped today. Last week, the contractors were a bit more casual about it, saying it happens, but they didn't expect to stop work. Apparently Barden had to sell another casino he owns to get enough equity to secure more loans.
Yeah, this casino thing sounds like a great idea for the city, county, and state.

Yeah...it's nice having a draw to the city that certainly doesn't exist anywhere else within, say, an hour's drive.
I think we should just leapfrog the competition and go straight to legalized prostitution; that's a fer-sure way to differentiate ourselves, far better than slots or table games. (Let's skip the obvious slots jokes, though...)
At least hookers wouldn't block the bike trail for extended periods of time. And I bet we could fund a new arena faster through taxes on THAT than via Mssr. Barden's checkbook.

how does the city spend all these hours/dollars going over this casino shit and pick a company that doesn't have any money?!?
does this mean the trail is going to be closed for longer?

The Riverlife Task Force said on a DUQ report that the $3 million for the riverside "amenities" is 4/10 of 1 percent of the overall $780 million project. To say that they're putting off a minuscule part of a 14 month project for 3 years is a clear dodge.
They tried the same thing with the $3 million they pledged to the Hill. I'm sure that sort of behavior is involved in why they still owe contractors $10 million.
Barden will be nickle and diming this project every step of the way and he is going to try to get out of any and every financial obligation he can so that, when he finally opens, he'll be able to maximize his profits.
Watch the papers to find out when the next public hearing will be on this issue so that we can get the entire cycling and riverfront community out to voice our displeasure.

You know, I would have never thought a casino deal would be full of graft and corruption.
